Ericsson has been appointed to set up a communication network in earth quake hit Haiti. The new network will be set by 20 volunteers and four telecom experts.
The communication network will basically enable aid workers to communicate between themselves. It will be a wireless network and Ericsson will provide mini-GSM base stations as well.
The network will be set up by Ericsson Response which was formed in 2000 offering communication expertise during disaster times. It has similarly offered assistance in Kongo, Sudan, Indonesia and Philippines.
Rima Qureshi, head of Ericsson Response, says, “We know from past experience how important it is for aid workers to coordinate the rescue operation using mobile communications. Aid workers can get their work done faster if we can provide them with the tools to get quickly in touch with the outside world, each other and those most affected by the emergency.” |
