Motorola Inc. posted its fourth quarter results ended December 31, 2009 posting a net profit of $ 142 million as compared to loss of $3.65 billion posted during the corresponding quarter last year.
Revenues however declined for the firm from $ 7.1 billion to $ 5.7 billion.
The Mobile Devices unit of the firm recorded sales of $1.8 billion at a 2% decline rate while the Home and Networks Mobility unit managed sales of $1.96 billion at 24% drop. The Enterprise Mobility Solutions of the group managed sales of $1.95 billion at a drop of 12%.
The Enterprise and Home& Networks Mobility unit managed to score operating earnings of $368 million and $91 million respectively. The operating loss for the Mobile Devices unit was $132 million.
The company also managed to generate positive cash flow of $ 877 million during the quarter.
"We performed well in the face of a challenging environment in 2009. Our results demonstrate the strength of our market leadership and the resilience of these businesses and our people,” said Greg Brown, Motorola co-chief executive officer and CEO of Broadband Mobility Solutions. “As market growth returns, we are well positioned to take advantage of our investments in key global markets with a competitive cost structure."
The company managed to ship 12 million handsets and estimates its market share to be 3.7%.

With an aggressive product and brand strategy and our continued focus on operational efficiency, we are building on our momentum to further improve the financial performance of the Mobile Devices business.”
However going ahead, the company expects a loss of $0.01 to $.0.03 per share in Q1 2010.
This is the third consecutive quarter when the company has posted profits. In Q3 09 the company managed profit of $ 12 million and in Q2 09 the profit was $26 million.
For the full year 2009, the company’s revenues were $22 billion as compared to $ 30 billion in 2008 and the loss narrowed down to $51 million from $ 4.2 billion in 2008. |
