Alcatel-Lucent announced it recorded 200 millionth DSL line shipments while supplying the solutions to Telefónica. To its credit, Alcatel-Lucent is the only vendor to have recorded the 200 million mark for DSL shipments.
“DSL has been the engine behind the broadband/Internet revolution, and is connecting approximately 2/3 of today’s broadband users around the world,” says Dave Geary, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s wireline networks activities. “We continue to support our customers to provide the highest value at the lowest cost per bit, in line with Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network™ architecture,” Geary added.
The company is focusing on tapping the demand for VDSL2, GPON, next generation DSL/fiber and demand for increasing the application enablement capabilities of the access network.
Market research firm, Dell’Oro ranks Alcatel-Lucent as the number one player in the DSL market. Alcatel-Lucent says that every third broadband subscriber across the globe is supported by an access network built by the company. |
