MNP further postponed to June 30
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  31 Mar 2010

The DoT on Tuesday postponed the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP) by another three months to June 30, 2010. The earlier revised deadline was March 12, 2010.

Incidentally the DoT has extended the deadline by another three months every time it has revised the dates. The first deadline was December, 2009 which was as mentioned earlier revised to March, 2010.

In December, the blame was put on PSUs BSNL and MTNL as they expressed inability to be MNP ready by the deadline. The PSUs had sought time till April to be fully MNP ready. Procurement in telecom gear is a lengthy process for the PSUs as they normally have to float a tender.

The government now has urged operators BSNL, MTNL and Uninor, who are yet to install the MNP gateways to be ready to implement the service by May 15.
