MNP player Telcordia receives Home Ministry clearance
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  09 Mar 2010

The issue over selection of US-based Telcordia is finally settled with the Home Ministry clearing the company’s proposals to set up India operations. Telcordia is one of the licence holders for managing mobile number portability (MNP) in the country.

"The matter has been re-examined and this Ministry conveys no-objection to the proposal subject to addressal of the certain issues", said a communication from Home Ministry to the Finance Ministry.

Earlier the company’s selection came under Home Ministry lens due to its presence in Pakistan. Subsequently the company’s application to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) was held up.

Telcordia is however required to furnish more detailed information about its operations in Pakistan i.e. whether its presence is merely as a vendor or MNP licence holder. "Suitable conditions are imposed to ensure that the equipment and services provided to India or to any Indian associate company would have no connection with its operating company in Pakistan", said the Home Ministry.
