The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has blamed DoT for extending undue benefits to RCom and Dishnet Wireless, reports PTI.
According to the CAG the DoT failed to follow its own first-cum-first-served policy while allocating spectrum to RCom and Dishnet Wireless for the Punjab circle in 2008.
The CAG reasoned that DoT did not allotted spectrum to existing operators Vodafone, Bharti and Spice which had applied for additional spectrum in the Punjab circle prior to RCom and Dishnet. The CAG also pointed out that the existing operators complied with the subscriber base criteria as well while applying for additional spectrum.
"On 25.8.06, DoT denied their request for additional spectrum on the ground of non-availability of spectrum and further stated that their requests have been noted for necessary action when the additional GSM spectrum is available. Thereafter, the operators kept on pursuing their requests for additional spectrum with the WPC wing," said CAG.
