Uninor introduces discounted tariff model under its ‘dynamic pricing’ plan
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  03 May 2010

Uninor appears to be triggering another tariff war in the Indian mobile services space with the company introducing a dynamic pricing tariff under the brand name ‘24X7 Changing Discount Plan (DP)’.  The discounts range from 5% to 60%.

Uninor says that the concept is based on charging the subscriber as per traffic on the network. The discounts will change as per location and time with each tower within the network offering different discount. The discount will additionally change every hour.

Uninor says that the tariff will be applicable on the standard rate of 50 paise per minute for any local call within Uninor network as well as to outside network. The operator says that with dynamic pricing tariff subscribers can call for as low as 20 paise and be assured that the tariffs will never cross the 50 paise mark.

Presently the offer is available in three circles namely Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

“The 24X7 Changing Discount Plan (DP) will not only help customers make significant savings on their bills, but also empower them by placing the power of tariffs in their hands. We will pass on our network capacity savings to our customers. With customers using our service more at locations and times that give best discounts, we will also be able to utilize our capacity better.  It is a perfect model and I won’t be surprised if it soon becomes an industry practice.” said Ann Hofvander, Executive Vice-President, Karnataka Hub.

The discounts applicable for the call are displayed on the screen of the subscribers. The discounts are identified by a ‘Discount Engine’.

Adds Ann Hofvander, “In a market as dynamic and price competitive as Karnataka, differentiation will be the key to success. We will do this by listening closely to our customers’ wishes and living our values of simplicity, respect, keeping promises and being inspiring. As we continue to deliver the services to our customers in Karnataka, this launch at Tumkur fortifies our commitment and focus to reach out to every town and village of the state. Our intent is long-term - to build Uninor as the preferred service in India”.

Don't go with that DP plan. These people are cheating. They won't give you discount of more than 15%, even it will flash 60% on your screen. I complained many times to customer care, but they told me that I am lying!!!
