The entry of 3G and BWA services in India is expected to fuel the demand for broadband services to be delivered over the wireless medium and this in turn will lead to network gear demand from the operator community to be capable of delivering such services. Huawei Technologies is betting big on this opportunity and aims to leverage on its end-to-end product portfolio to tap this opportunity.
Unlike its Western World counterparts who cater to only HSPA/WCDMA network gear, Huawei’s solutions for mobile broadband span the entire gourmet of technologies including not only HSPA/WCDMA but also WiMAX. In fact its portfolio is truly comprehensive considering the fact that it also has a range of end-user terminals supporting mobile broadband services.
While the terminal portfolio includes handset terminals, Huawei has also come up with some unique CPEs (customer premise equipments). One such futuristic CPE includes E5 which is a Wi-Fi CPE supporting HSPA platform. The CPE will be of tremendous use particularly to enhance in-door coverage in 3G ecosystems.
Huawei has also designed a mobile terminal which can support both GSM as well as WiMAX platforms.
“We have developed our terminals taking into consideration our global observations which highlight that consumer uptake for mobile broadband terminals peaked when the price point reached $ 170. Our efforts are to further reduce this price point,” says, A.Sethu Raman, Executive Director, Product & Solution, Huawei India while speaking to TelecomTiger.
“The entry of 3G and BWA services will see a tremendous impact on the stakeholders in the telecom industry particularly the consumers and operators,” explains Sethu Raman.”While presently the focus is on voice-based services, the advent of mobile broadband will result in the power of internet being available on mobile handsets in a much more enhanced way in terms of end-user experience as compared to present scenario,” adds Sethu Raman.
According to him, from an operator perspective, the mobile broadband services will greatly assist in reaching out to targeted audiences in context of mobile advertising, generating new revenue streams as well as offering more converged services from the same network.
As a technological enabler, Huawei Technologies is proactively working on tapping this upcoming opportunity in India and has lined up its comprehensive mobile broadband portfolio around three fundamental factors collectively known as ‘ABC’ proposition.
The ‘A’ in ‘ABC’ stands for ARPU, a factor of extremely prime importance for Indian service providers who till now have failed to keep a check on the dwindling numbers. Huawei says its mobile broadband solutions can help operators realise increased ARPUs by way of enabling delivery of targeted and differentiated services.
The ‘B’ stands for Bandwidth and Huawei promises that its solutions will ensure network scalability, backhaul compatibility as well as address issues of core network.
The ‘C’ in ABC stands for Cost and according to Huawei it works closely with operators to precisely identify the costs to be incurred in offering such services as well as offering solutions to keep this factor at the bare minimum levels.
“ Our solutions such as SingleRAN, Single Core of multiple functionality which has built-in circuit as well as packet network components as well as all these solutions conforming to ATCA (advanced telecomputing architecture) standards differentiate our mobile broadband solution portfolio and we are eagerly awaiting to partner with Indian service providers as they prepare to rollout what can be considered the new generation of services to be delivered over the mobile broadband medium,” concludes Sethu Raman.
The company recently showcased its mobile broadband solutions under the ‘E2E MBB’ (end-to-end mobile broadband) roadshow in Delhi and Mumbai. |
