Uninor announced the launch of its GPRS-based data services in Kolkata and West Bengal including Sikkim. The services are presently limited to prepaid subscribers.

Data services will be available through a base plan with tariff of 10p per 10kb. Customers will also be able to access the service through two products – myconnect 9 priced at Rs. 9 that’s valid for 3 days and allows free browsing upto 60MB and myconnect 90 priced at Rs. 90 that’s valid for 30 days with 3GB of free browsing. For both plans, usage beyond free data will be charged at 10p per 10kb. Both plans also allow customers free access to popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In.

“Our data services now debut in the high potential metro circles and regions with high data consumption,” said Akash Das, Executive Vice president, Kolkata Hub. “Uninor now offers a complete pre-paid offering – with good quality voice and high speed data. We do this with affordable, simple yet innovative tariffs and a superior experience on a network that is congestion free and uses newer technology,” he added.

MMS will be charged at Rs.5 per MMS.

With the launch of the data services in Kolkata and West Bengal, Uninor’s data services are available across all its 13 circles of operations.
