Sibal pledges to streamline BSNL in six months
TT Correspondent |  |  27 May 2011

Assuring full support from the government, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal today said he is committed to turnaround BSNL, which has been running into huge losses for the last two years. The state-run telecom operator has been facing stiff competition from private operators and has been forced to rethink its strategy.

BSNL CMD R K Upadhyaya had said the company was mulling entering into new business areas in the telecom sector to turnaround and may also approach the government to come out with a scheme to unlock the value of real estate owned by it. Once the country''s flagship telecom company, BSNL posted a net loss of Rs 1,823 crore on revenue of Rs 32,046 crore in 2009-2010.
