BSNL Chennai Telephones, which has emerged as the country''s top performing telecom circle in the Rs.1,000 crore revenue category, will be targeting a robust expansion of its broadband, enterprise business and value added services (VAS) portfolios during the fiscal.
While the growth of the mobile user base has slowed down in a market cluttered with a dozen players in the GSM and CDMA segments, landline connections have hit a plateau. Moreover, BSNL has been operating its mobile services at rock-bottom tariffs to counter stiff competition in the mobile telephony space.
“Diversifying the VAS bouquet and encouraging data consumption will be important drivers of revenue growth into the future,” says an official.
While the CellOne user base has crossed the 1.5 million mark, the landline sector with 1 million live connections has barely managed to stave off negative growth thanks largely to BSNL bundling its broadband services with fixed phones.
With BSNL's DataOne (broadband) connections nearing the half million mark in Chennai, the focus is as much on keeping the existing flock happy as on new customer acquisitions. Alongside attractive tariff plans and increasing browsing speeds, the technical back-up team is under instructions to minimise the downtime of landline-broadband faults. |
