There is no bidder left in the fray for CDMA spectrum with Tata Teleservices deciding to pull out of the auctions. Earlier, Videocon had withdrawn its application from bidding in CDMA spectrum auctions last week.
Monday was the last day to withdraw applications. The process of auction will begin on November 12.
The reason for pull out is believed to be high price for spectrum for circles which did not generate significant revenues.
Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Telenor and Videocon bidding for GSM airwaves, meanwhile have confirmed participation in the 1800 MHz band auction.
Following Supreme Court’s verdict Tata Teleservices had lost spectrum licences in three circles, Assam, the north-east and Jammu & Kashmir. It had deposited an EMD of only Rs 22.5 crore for these circles.
According to one estimate, the government is set to lose approximately Rs 7000 cr that it had expected from the CDMA spectrum auction.
The government has fixed minimum price of Rs 14,000 crore for pan-India GSM spectrum auction while the same for the CDMA spectrum will be 1.3 times of GSM spectrum price.
Sistema and Tata Tele are relying on their respective curative petitions before the Supreme Court. |
