Messaging app Line has 10 million registered users in India

Japanese messaging application Line has announced that has 10 million registered users in India. LINE has over 260 million users globally while US messaging application Whatsapp has more than 250 million active users.

Line said that its hopes to cross the 20 million mark this year betting on advertising and localizing content.

Akira Morikawa, chief operating officer LINE Corporation said that Line has not witnessed such rapid growth in any other country so far. Line has partnered with Sony India to have LINE pre-installed on the Xperia Z1 and Xperia C smartphones.

India which is growing smartphone market is huge market for the messaging applications. India has surpassed Japan to become the third-largest smartphone market is the world.

China's Tencent had launched its application WeChat in India earlier in May. The top four apps are Line, WhatsApp, Facebook and WeChat in Google play app store.

Line has roped in Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif as its brand ambassador.
