India’ mobile subscriber base registers 0.17% growth in July

According to latest data released by Trai,total mobile subscriber base in India increased from 873.36million in June 2013 to 874.88million at the end of July 2013, registering a monthly growth of 0.17%.

The share of urban wireless subscribers has increased from 59.80% to 60.10% whereas share of rural wireless subscribers has decreased from 40.20% to 39.90%. The overall wireless Teledensity in India has reached71.13 from 71.08 of previous month.

Mobile subscription in urban areas increased from 522.27 million in June 2013 to 525.78 million at the end of July 2013. The wireless subscription in rural areas decreased from 351.10 million to 349.09 million during the same period. The urban wireless Teledensity has increased from 139.16 to 139.87whereasrural Teledensity has decreased from 41.14to 40.88. Detailed statistics is at Annexure I.

Overall, the number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 903.09million at the end of June, 2013 to 904.46million at the end of July 2013, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.15%. The share of urban subscribers has increasedfrom60.40% to60.68% whereas share of rural subscribers has declinedfrom 39.60%to 39.32% in the month of July 2013. With this, the overall Teledensity in India slightly increased from73.50 at the end of June, 2013to 73.54at the end of July, 2013.

Subscription in the urban areas increased from 545.48 million in June, 2013 to 548.85 million at the end of July, 2013. Subscription in rural areas decreased from 357.61 million to 355.60 million during the same period. The monthly growth rate of urban and rural subscription is3.30% and -1.93% respectively. The overall urban Teledensity has increased from 145.35 to 146.00whereas Rural Teledensity decreased from 41.90to 41.64.

As per the data reported by the service providers, by the end of July 2013 about 97.82million subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number.
