Nokia has launched its first Android smartphone in India. It is available for Rs. 8,599. It may provide tough competition to Micromax and Samsung (entry level Samsung galaxy Y). However, it is not likely to improve Nokia’s image as a low end brand in India.
“India is one of the fastest growing markets for smart phones in the world. With the launch of Nokia X, we are adding more ammunition to our smartphone portfolio,” said P Balaji, managing director, Nokia India. “We believe Nokia X is a unique combination of Nokia quality and experiences, Microsoft services and Android apps. It will resonate with consumers and set a great precedent for the level of quality that can be achieved in the fast-growing, affordable smartphone segment.”
With its 4 inch scratch-proof display and exchangeable back covers in different colours, it is a good looking phone. It runs on the Nokia X Software Platform and is powered by a 1 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor coupled with 512 MB RAM. It has 3 megapixels fixed focus camera but lacks front facing snapper.
It has Fastlane screen that allows one to switch between different apps smoothly. People can access apps from Nokia Store, more than a dozen third-party app stores and by side loading. All devices are also pre-loaded with a variety of very popular third-party apps and games.
