Service Providers in India have shifted their focus to the rural folks. But there are certain technological challenges to be overcome to realistically see the reach of telecom services in rural India. High network rollout cost, coupled with the fact that resources such as power are a virtual luxury in these areas make the task doubly difficult for operators. And it is here where Chinese firm, Huawei Technologies foresees a strong latent demand from operators in India.
"Improving tele-density in rural needs green network with lower Opex and Capex,” says Nagaraja Upadhya, Vice President for Huawei India Network Marketing and Product R&D speaking to TelecomTiger. “When you look at solutions, it’s green by three elements. One is the reduction in carbon dioxide emission, reduction in the power consumption, and higher integration to cut down in the space consumed while increasing the network capacity and reliability. And we have made a number of innovations to ensure all of these,” he adds.
“We being a very strong R&D company with strong capabilities for customized market, we have reduced the core router sizes by more than 40 to 50 percent and the power requirements by 30 to 60 percent. We have reduced our DWDM and DXC into one device to help reduce the size and cut back on AC consumption. By rolling out innovative Microwave technology for rural mobile backhaul, along with strong GPON technology, we have been able to reduce power and our footprint for higher capacity and the reach for multi-service solution,” says the VP.
Mr. Upadhya was speaking on the sidelines of an ‘India IP Time 2009 Workshop’ currently being conducted by the company to pitch its comprehensive range of solutions for the Indian market.
On showcase are solutions ranging from Green end to end Communication network with smooth Evolution for 2G->3G, LTE and Broadband Ready (from TDM centric to all IP FMC/Any service anywhere) network. Solutions catering to IP over DWDM solution with 40G DWDM & OTN technology, MW solution with Adaptive Modulation technology, and Smooth Capex & Opex saving MSTP+ solution are also on display.
Other technologies like Integrated IMS Application & services for next generation service delivery & management platform and unified NMS for end to end management and Multi-layer ASON for end to end services were present at the demo.
For the enterprise sector, Mr. Upadhya says the company has multiple offerings like ICT devices, which can enable users to make calls from a particular company’s website itself, E-commerce system platform, Data-center solutions, and Enterprise SANS (Storage and network solutions).
“Three prime components- Power, reliability- of both network and equipment, and management, ascertains the technology demonstration of Huawei India,” concludes Mr. Upadhya.
However, the best is yet to come, opines Mr. Upadhya. “The growth in telecom in India and the rural India in particular will increase, with the momentum, yet to be touched,”
“With the growing demand for applications, and infrastructure being worked upon and the government also putting efforts to ensure that communication is reached everywhere, the Indian telecom market is set to achieve tremendous growth.” |
