Vodafone joins others in bid for Orascom’s Internet subsidiary in Egypt
TT Bureau |  |  16 Jul 2009

Vodafone Egypt has joined the race against other Egyptian telecom firms including financial consortiums to acquire Orascom Telecom’s LinkDotNet, an internet service arm., reports Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Interestingly Mobinil is also reported to be in race for the stake. It is interesting to know because Orascom effectively has stake in Mobinil. Mobinil has been involved in bitter management stake control between Orascom and France Telecom. In fact it is for this reason that stake sale of LinkDotNet has been delayed by six months.

Others in race include big names such as Telecom Egypt and Etisalat.

Orascom Chairman Naguib Sawiris said that the firm expects to identify the highest bidder for the firm with so many players interested in the stake.
