Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile US is reportedly in the preliminary stage of talks to gain access to spectrum controlled by Clearwire Corp. and MetroPCS Communications Inc. as the German company eyes expansion in the U.S., said Bloomberg.
The move is viewed as a part of the company’s strategy of ramping up its nationwide networks using high-speed technology in the most cost-effective manner.
Sprint Nextel Corp., which owns 51 percent of Clearwire, is also involved in the talks with Bonn-based Deutsche Telekom, the people said.
The parties involved refrained from officially commenting on the move.
Clearwire surged 18 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $8.97 at 4 p.m, while MetroPCS was unchanged at $10.04 on the New York Stock Exchange. Deutsche Telekom picked 0.3 percent to 9.33 euros in Frankfurt. |
