TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  02 Dec 2009

Tata Teleservices today launched live television streaming services delivered over wireless data network to its Photon Plus subscribers. The new service is branded as Photon TV. Subscribers of Tata Photon Plus can now watch live television channels on their laptops or other computing terminals. Movies, music and videos on demand will also be offered to the subscribers through this new service.

“Tata Teleservices Limited has always been a pioneer in terms of adding value to the mobile communications experience in India—we added value to the way people talk by introducing the Pay Per Use (TATA DOCOMO) and Pay Per Call (Tata Indicom) concepts in India; we also added value on the voice and data services side by introducing the Walky and Photon families of products. Now, we have moved mobility another few giant steps along the evolutionary path, with the launch of Photon TV today. This innovative product underlines the technological superiority of the Photon technology, which has become the rage amongst Internet-users,” said Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Tata Teleservices Limited.

“With its growing popularity, Photon Plus has caught the admiration of millions of users across the country, thanks to its high-speed data access capabilities and the ease of mobility. When we launched Photon Plus, Tata Teleservices was the first telecom operator to launch high-speed mobile broadband access services in the industry. Today, with the technological innovation and breakthrough in mobile broadband services space, we have again taken the first-mover advantage by launching Photon TV, an innovative application and service that will appeal to a wide cross-section of our user base,” added  Lloyd Mathias, Chief Marketing Officer of Tata Teleservices Limited.

The services will be offered under three options of Rs 4 per channel per month; Rs 29 per month for My Combo (offers bouquet of 10 channels); and Rs 75 per month for all channels. Subscribers will however have to incur data charges as per their existing plan.

Apalya is the technology partner for TTSL for this service.
