Vodafone has come up with Vodafone 150 and Vodafone 250 handsets priced at $ 15 and $ 20 respectively using which the company aims to penetrate the low-strata of population.
Initially the handsets will be launched in India as well as 6 markets in Africa including The Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Qatar, South Africa and Tanzania.
In India the company expects the handset to reach 60% of the population through its retail network.
Patrick Chomet, Vodafone'''s Group Director of Terminals, says, “The cost of mobile handsets can be one of the most significant barriers for people in accessing and benefiting from the growing number of socially valuable mobile services. The lives of people who use these phones - the Vodafone 150 and Vodafone 250 – will be changed and improved as they become part of the mobile society. I am proud of the work we have done and will continue to do in this critical area of customer empowerment.”
The handsets support mobile payment features as well. The main difference between the two handsets is that Vodafone 250 screen has a colour screen as well as a FM radio.
