UK-based Synchronica acquires Colibria''s IMPS Instant Messaging Business

Synchronica which specializes in providing push email services to mass market handsets as well as offers messaging solutions announced on Wednesday that it will acquire Colibria’s Instant Messaging Business helping it to accelerate its foray into the IM space.

Synchronica plans to continue offering Colibria as a stand-alone product with the product being integrated into Synchronica's Mobile Gateway messaging suite. It will also be pre-installed on Synchronica’s recently launched MessagePhone.

The company will also gain from transfer of 13 carrier contracts including two large carrier groups with an addressable market of more than 320 million subscribers. 46 of Clibria’s employees will now come under Synchronica’s fold.

On the acquisition, Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte says, "Mobile instant messaging and social networking are fast-growing sectors, in particular in emerging markets. Our acquisition of Colibria's instant messaging business will allow Synchronica to offer a range of next-generation messaging products to service providers, improving our competitive positioning and accelerating our commercial growth."
