Huawei India expresses surprise over DoT directive; calls for fair resolution
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  03 May 2010

The government’s recently reported directive banning the import of Chinese telecom equipment gear from companies including Huawei Technologies has taken the banned companies by surprise as they claim that the DoT had not informed them officially about the directive.

Huawei for instance says that the company has not received any official communications on the issue.” Nevertheless we have read media reports and are deeply concerned and surprised to know about this development. Huawei India is currently evaluating and understanding the latest development and seeking clarifications from the concerned authorities,” says the company.

The company cites that its telecom products and solutions are used by 45 of the world’s top 50 operators in over 120 countries. The company also points out that it is ready to support any effort to cope with network/cyberworld security issues by collaborating with cusomers, governments as well as third party agencies and jointly develop any testing, certification and auditing mechanisms.

The company has called for the government to resolve the issue by putting in place a fair and non-discriminatory policy guideline.
