Planning: Our solutions are designed to scale and provide continuity from manufacturing to lab to field deployments – minimizing construction time and ensuring high-quality network performance.
Test & Verification: Our domain-focused solutions span across devices, radio, ad hoc network clusters, radio access network, transport, core and services for verticals to deliver essential visibility and actionable insights for 5G end-to-end programmable and dynamic networks. Used together, our solutions enable the rapid isolation of issues.
Assurance: Our solutions support cognitive functions, end-to-end SON and MANO of network slices by providing orchestrated real-time network and contextual awareness across all key domains.
Optimization: VIAVI offers continuous monitoring and feedback for the dynamic network, with general and deployment-specific KPIs such as use-cases-specific QoE and QoS.
Specifically regarding IoT, our solution CellAdvisor, which features NB-IoT support:
• Measures the interference and performance impact the NB-IoT signal may have on the LTE wideband signal. • Confirms whether the signal has the reach and coverage required to serve the number of devices in the assigned geographic area. • Provides comprehensive analysis, including signal power levels, digital demodulation analysis and interference analysis down to the single Physical Resource Block (PRB).
These detailed measurements provide a full picture of how well the network is operating in terms of performance, coverage and data traffic capacity, while identifying potential issues related to interference or intermodulation that need to be resolved.
3. Networks are often blamed for the poor quality of service. What is the international scenario on QoS? How is VIAVI enabling the telecom operators in this respect?
A. We support telecom operators across the world to test and measure their network and assure good subscriber quality of service. In most developed markets, ensuring a high subscriber QoS is typically one of their top internal KPIs. This is not surprising given how competitive most markets are. A good subscriber experience is the most tangible day-to-day way that subscribers evaluate their telecom operator – and decides whether to stay with their operator or churn.
Our role on assuring the network covers every angle of the operator business, from network test & certification, fiber testing, inspection, & characterization, network service activation & assurance, network performance management, through to network intelligence, assurance and optimization.
It should be pointed out however, that the network is not always at fault for poor quality of service. In February 2017, VIAVI released a joint study with Bharti Airtel regarding measurement and analysis of 4G and 3G smartphone performance—representing over 8,000 smartphone models—crowdsourced using a big data approach from the live Airtel network, with the help of VIAVI’s location intelligence platform.
The analysis was intended to evaluate variation in key performance indicators (KPIs) impacting user experience in various smartphone models, to develop a process for smartphone qualification using real-world quality of experience samples, and to provide manufacturers with data to improve future products. We found that amongst the top 128 smartphone models, around 23 percent of 4G smartphones and 13 percent of 3G only smartphones did not meet the qualification benchmarks. The analysis confirmed that there is variation in smartphone types, and corresponding variation in user experience under the same network conditions.
4. What kind of growth VIAVI is expecting in India and APAC? What are the opportunities that Indian market offers?
A. VIAVI has grown its business in India and APAC over the past few years and these regions contribute significantly in VIAVI’s global growth strategy. The team here is dedicated to delivering value to our customers and has deep industry experience with sharp market focus.
VIAVI is a dominant player in the field of test and measurement solutions in India and engaged in multiple opportunities with both government and private sector.
Broadband (wireless and fixed), Network for Spectrum, Digital India and the National Optical Fiber Network are driving the need for test instruments in India.
The telecom operators are fiberizing their cell towers and building optical networks for backhaul in order to scale them up for higher speeds due to the rising needs of data-driven consumers.
Fiber instruments continue to form the largest component of the market and VIAVI has both handhelds and its Optical Network Management System which can also play a major role in the automation initiatives of operators. |
